Analysis of the match between FC Bayern München and RB Leipzig
In the most recent Bundesliga round last weekend, both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig claimed victories. While Bayern cruised to a convincing 5–1 win over Hoffenheim, Leipzig had to endure a far tougher contest before edging past Cologne with a narrow 2–1 victory.
At present, Bayern remain firmly at the top of the table with 54 points, while Leipzig sit fourth on 39 points. Despite being level on points with Stuttgart, Marco Rose’s side rank higher thanks to a superior goal difference. Nevertheless, their position is far from secure, as the gap to the chasing pack remains slim, placing considerable pressure on Leipzig.
Putting the Bundesliga campaign temporarily aside, Leipzig will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 German Cup. However, facing Bayern Munich at this stage is clearly a scenario that no Leipzig supporter would have wished for.
In terms of form, the disparity between the two sides is evident. Bayern have won eight of their last ten matches, whereas Leipzig have managed only five victories over the same span. Moreover, the Bavarians enjoy home advantage and boast an impressive record at the Allianz Arena, where they have won eight of their last ten games.
By contrast, Leipzig have secured just two wins from their last six away fixtures, highlighting their ongoing struggles on the road. To make matters worse, Bayern have dominated recent head-to-head encounters, recording four wins and one draw in the last five meetings. Based on these figures, Bayern are strong favourites to claim victory and book their place in the next round.
