Analysis of the match between Juventus and Benfica
Juventus have just brought an end to their impressive run of seven unbeaten matches after suffering a surprising 0-1 defeat to Cagliari in Serie A last weekend. This setback partly reflects a slowdown for the “Old Lady” following a previously stable period.
It cannot be ruled out that the need to prepare for their upcoming Champions League clash with Benfica caused Juventus to lose some focus. Compared to the hosts, Benfica are maintaining fairly consistent form, although it would be premature to say they are at their peak. Specifically, Mourinho’s side have recorded four wins, one draw and two defeats in their last seven matches. Nevertheless, a recent 2-0 victory over Rio Ave has boosted Benfica’s confidence ahead of their trip to Turin.
Juventus remain a formidable challenge for Benfica, especially considering the Turin giants are unbeaten in their last 10 home matches. That said, playing away from home has not been a major obstacle for Benfica either, as they have won seven, drawn one and lost just one of their last nine away games.
Looking at the head-to-head record, Benfica even hold the upper hand. In their previous eight meetings, the Portuguese side have won four, drawn three and lost only once. Notably, Benfica are unbeaten in their last four visits to Juventus’ home ground, with two wins and two draws. Based on the current form and squad situation of both teams, a draw appears to be a reasonable outcome for both Juventus and Benfica.
