Analysis of the match between Liverpool and Qarabağ FK
Liverpool have shown impressive consistency in the Champions League this season, currently sitting fourth in the standings with 15 points after seven matches. However, the gap between The Reds and the teams outside the Top 8 is only two points, forcing Arne Slot’s side to target a victory in this round if they want to secure direct qualification to the round of 16.
In their most recent Champions League outing, Liverpool delivered a convincing performance by beating Marseille 3-0 away from home, reaffirming their stature and composure on the European stage. Nevertheless, overall form has been somewhat inconsistent. Across their last five matches in all competitions, Liverpool have recorded two wins, two draws and one defeat. Notably, the recent 2-3 loss away to Bournemouth in the Premier League highlighted lingering issues in their domestic campaign.
On the other hand, Qarabag have exceeded expectations in this season’s Champions League. The Azerbaijani champions have collected 10 points from seven matches and currently sit 18th in the league phase standings, with three wins, one draw and three defeats. Even so, they still need at least one more point to keep their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive.
That said, Qarabag face a daunting challenge as they travel to Anfield, where Liverpool’s superior quality and intensity are well established. Their dramatic 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the previous Champions League round may provide a morale boost, but last weekend’s domestic defeat to the weaker Kapaz side once again exposed their lack of consistency.
