Analysis of the match between Juventus and Roma
After a surprise defeat away to Cagliari on December 7, Roma regained some confidence with consecutive wins over Celtic (3-0) in the Europa League and Como (1-0). Nevertheless, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side continue to play a rather pragmatic style due to their limited squad depth. Notably, the Wolves have struggled against top teams this season, suffering defeats to Milan, Inter and Napoli.
It is difficult to expect Roma to replicate the attacking brilliance Atalanta once showcased under Gasperini. Financial constraints have limited their recruitment, while their biggest star, Paulo Dybala, has seen a dip in form and has often been relegated to the bench. The Argentine forward is also likely to leave at the end of the season as his contract expires and no renewal appears imminent.
Meanwhile, Juventus are gradually finding their rhythm under new head coach Luciano Spalletti, a figure closely associated with Roma in the past. Despite playing without much flair and missing key striker Dusan Vlahovic through a long-term injury, Juve are clearly back on track. In addition to improving their position in the Champions League group stage, the Bianconeri have closed the gap to the top four to just three points.
Another victory would push Juventus even closer to a top-four spot. Given their current form, fighting spirit and strong home record against Roma, Spalletti’s men have every reason to be confident.
